This dissertation is a pilot study on porcelain handcraft industry in Shanxi Provience through typology, periodization, regionalization and the relation between the circumjacent kilns and the local, which is based on the material excavated from tombs and ancient sites.The main body of the essay has four parts:Part one is mainly concerned with the review of the excavation and the research on porcelain in Shanxi. The history consists of three stages: the first starts from 1950 to 1960s, 1970-1980s comes to the next, the last phrase is 1990s to present.In this part, the text summarizes and comment the important discovery and the fruits of the study.Part two divide the whole excavated porcelain into 16 categories by glaze, and analyse every glaze in typology, and probe into the spread of each one.Part three divide the porcelain handcraft industry in Shanxi during Song and Jin era into three phrases. The author mainly dissertate the expansion of the sites and kilns, the increase and disappear in the sort of type and glaze. Moreover, according to the stylish products in different area, Shanxi could be separated into three production parts, in this part, author recapitulate the primary glaze, decoration and the shape of the ceramic.Part four, the relative research. The first question is to find out the relationship between the local kilns and the surrounding ones, referring the result of regionalizing the northern ceramic productive area, which is concluded by Qin Dashu. The second one is to discuss the influence of the cut-glaze decoration that maybe the northern part of Shanxi gives to the Western Xia. At last, the author generalizes the development of the porcelain handcraft industry in Shanxi from Xia, Shang to Ming, Qing.
