The thesis reports a research of an investigation of the American people's acceptanceof the Chinese-English public signs, both international public signs and non-internationalpublic signs.The purpose of this thesis is attempted to find out the pragmatic problems existing inthe Chinese-English public signs within China from the intercultural communicationperspective. It conducts in the setting of an international and the intercultural context,from the consideration of the feedback from the international message receivers.The research uses questionnaire as the instruments and after that statistical analysis isconducted with SPSS 13.0 and Excel.The results show that the communicative effect of international public signs is betterthan non-international public signs. It is unnecessary to translate the signs with domesticflavor. Improper expressions still exist in international public signs. The causes of theproblems are discussed from the aspect of culture discrepancy and pragmatic failurerespectively.
