Jorge Luis Borges is one of the most famous writers of contemporary Argentina. There are countless research productions and critical articles in various fields in western academic circle. However, in China, the research of Borges still maintains very low level.Among most of Borges' works, including novels, short stories, poems and essays, Book and Reading are two important angles from which we can probe into Borges's world and discuss it thoroughly. Both Book and Reading play very important roles in Borges' masterpieces. In the world of Borges, Book varies from Real Book, Fictional Book to Metaphorical Book step by step. It makes the whole world a metaphor of Book. Then, by the action of Reading, the realm of Book extends continuously and at last gets the ontological meaning, and becomes to the world itself as well. It is Reading that is the way to exist for both writers and readers. In the kingdom of Book and Reading, writers divide from themselves and get lost in the labyrinth of their own. Meanwhile, the world of Book is also widened in the progress of Copying. Whereafter, Writer is assimilated with Reader, and Reader also has turned into a part of the infinite chain of Reading. In this way, Book and Reading which in Borges' works overflow. The small world of works becomes into an immense universe. In this universe, history, realness, and art have gained infinite possibility; thereby can be interpreted without end. Based on it, we can keep on probing into the meaning and trend of both Book and Reading in modern society.
