The Study On Ci-poem Of Zhang Yu Within Jiangzhe

Zhang Yu (1283-1350), styled Boyu and titled Zhenju or Juquwaishi, was born in Qiantang (in the present Hangzhou, Zhejiang). As a renowned Taoist writer in the Yuan Dynasty, he was extremely respected at that time for the attainments in poetry, painting and calligraphy. Yang Weizhen praised his poems as "absolutely masterly in the paradise of Ci-poem". His works include 5 volumes of Poetry Anthology of Mr. Zhenju, three volumes of addendum (posthumous work of the martial arts predecessors), Poem Lyrics of Zhenju and five volumes of Zi Shu Shi Ce (Self-reflection) and Xuan Pin Lu( On Mysteries). Poems of Zhang Yu are all characterized with freshness and pleasantness. As a student of Qiu Yuan, his works, bearing the tune of Elegant Ci-poem of the Southern Song Dynasty, had all been masterly achieved with a special lasting appeal. Despite a Taoist, he is still much of a scholar.First, from the regional culture of Jiangzhe(Jiangsu and Zhejiang), this thesis elaborates thoroughly the cultural environment of community creation for the Ci-poets in the Yuan Dynasty, outlines generally the social and cultural background of Zhang Yu, analyzing his ideology of the great poet; second, it studies classifiably his works of C-poems and gets an overall scenario; third, it focuses on explaining the uniqueness of his works from the cultural origin of elegance in Buddhist and Taoist poetry; fourth, it discusses on the cultural position of Ci-poems of Zhenju through the artistic style and the legacy of Elegant Ci-poem in the late Song Dynasty. The thesis has also researched the friendship of Zhang Yu and made notes for the Ci-poems of Zhenju as the appendix.
