The naissance of character is an important sign which indicates the beginning of the human civilization. In this graphical society, pictograph plays a decisive role in the field of graphic design, especially in the area of logo design. Chinese character possesses the unique visual appeal for it has been continuously inherited by several millenniums and went through many historical stages. In addition, the character can not only convey the information, but its glyph also has the unique beautiful form. In particular, the contour, constitution and stroke themselves all can be regarded as one kind of graph which has the specific meaning and the fixed shape. The Chinese character itself, which evolves from the primitive graph, enjoys the beauty of the graph.This article attempts to explore the issue that how to apply the manifestation of pictograph in logo design through summing up the disciplines and methods of pictograph's manifestation. It discourses this research upon four aspects, namely the significance, the analysis of logo and pictograph's manifestation, the sculpt and aesthetic characteristic as well as the epochal features of pictograph. Meanwhile, it emphatically studies the relationship between the features of pictograph and character logo design. This article considers that the key is how to apply the method of pictograph into graphic design, so as to promote design level, and enhance the readability, esthetic appreciation, epochal feature and nationality.The innovativeness of this article is to regard pictograph as a technique of expression, as well as to discuss the application of this technique in graphic design. It emphatically studies how the Chinese and English, the two language elements, carry on pictograph processing in the logo design.
