Discussion Of Wang Zengqi's Prose Writing

Wang Zengqi is famous for his novels. In the 1980s his novels Commandment and An Account of Da Nao were like fresh air to the Chinese literary world. Not until his prose Pu Bridge Anthology was published in 1989 did people begin to give attention to Wang Zengqi's proses. And comments on his proses were written after that. The themes of his prose have a wide range: people, scenery, culture, anecdote, grass, wood, insect, fish, etc. They are all full of spice. His proses have unique artistic style in contemporary literature. Wang Zengqi was an important writer who inherited the past and ushered the future in contemporary Chinese literature. This paper studies the ideological content of Wang Zengqi's proses and reveals their writing artistic characteristic and uniqueness. This paper consists of three parts:Foreword: This part analyses Wang Zengqi's writing process and comments on the literary significance of his works. At the same time, it presents the principal body of this paper.The first part: This part probes into the ideological content of Wang Zengqi's proses. Wang Zengqi was influenced deeply by Confucianism and Taoism, which affected his writing style. So his proses have a deep traditional consciousness. But his proses don't lack modern consciousness. His proses are full of care about life, individuality and concern about women's destiny. They also show some sadness to a certain extent. Wang Zengqi's proses are based on country life. In his life he mainly lived in Gaoyou and Kunming. So his proses show his love about the people and life in these two places. Another feature about Wang Zengqi's proses is his description about food in different places. Food is a like bridge which made him recall the life in the past. The description of food shows his love of life and his enjoyment about nature. Wang Zengqi's proses with his hometown in the background are mostly about country customs which are just like vivid pictures of a variety of customs.The second part: This part is about the artistic characteristics of Wang Zengqi's proses. What Wang Zengqi pursuited in prose writing is aesthetic harmony. He had a strong consciousness of language in composing proses. He thought the language of proses should contain four characteristics: content, culture, hint and floating. Wang Zengqi's proses have classical elegance because the language is beautiful and poetic. Wang Zengqi inherited the writing tradition of ancient notes prose and the essay style of the late Ming Dynasty. He also inherited the Beijing prose style as . Wang Zengqi attempted to break the restrictions between novels and proses. His proses and novels are related to each other, which made his proses unique.
