This thesis is intended to elaborate on the multimedia listening activity of the effect on the learners'listening comprehension. In order to examine the learners'use of multimedia listening activity from DynEd software with a particular focus on learners'interaction with subtitles and transcripts in case of comprehension breakdowns, and investigate the learners'attitudes towards the multimedia listening activity by the computers in the language classroom, a teaching listening experiment was given to 60 English-major students in their first year at Anyang Institute of Science and Technology. The results of this study are: (1) the use of subtitles and transcripts as help options in case of listening comprehension breakdowns showed that the participants used the subtitles more frequently and for longer periods of time than the transcript. (2) The subtitles were also the preferred help option before and after the activity. (3) The higher proficiency group also used subtitles more frequently and for longer amounts of time than the lower proficiency group although both groups exhibited very similar behavior on the transcripts. (4) 80% participants favor this kind of listening module due to the advantages of CALL activity. The research was done in the hope that it may call more attention to the CALL research as it becomes prevalent in foreign and second language classrooms. What is more important in this thesis is to draw the teachers'attention to the best use of the multimedia material in order to improve their teaching level.
