Vocabulary learning has long been the most difficult part for adult English learners. As language is in a constant developing state, it will never be learned once for ever. So it is particularly important how to learn vocabulary effectively and apply it accurately to daily life to realize communication purpose. It has long been a hot topic among learners as well as scholars, especially after the entry of the 21st century, how to improve vocabulary learning abilities and strategies has been the focusing point in foreign language teaching and research.In order to have a better idea about the current adult language learning and further explore more effective learning ways and strategies, the author has done some research on the current adult vocabulary learning. The author points out the research questions as follows: 1) What are the specific characteristics for adult vocabulary learning? 2) How does the learning process as well as learning strategies influence the learning effect? 3) What are the other factors that have direct influence on adult vocabulary learning effect? 4) What is the most efficient vocabulary learning strategy for the adult? To get all the answers, the author, with the cooperation of students and teachers from Dalian Excellence Language Training School, successfully collected data needed for further analysis of adult vocabulary learning.Finally, the author suggests the better ways of learning and points out the implications and limitations of this research, with the hope to provide some practical significance on the learners and bring more ideas to further studies.
