The concept of fuzziness was first proposed by the American professor Zadeh in his article entitled Fuzzy Sets, in which Zadeh pointed out that objects in the real world usually do not have sharply defined boundaries. Since its introduction, the theory of fuzziness has aroused attention from many areas and various researches have been done on the ground of fuzziness. The study on fuzziness by foreign linguists can be traced back to the late of 1970s. And domestic research on it started by Professor Wu Tieping, and later on many Chinese linguists study fuzziness and apply it in different fields. However, application of fuzziness in stock comment language from pragmatic point of view calls for further research efforts.Stock comment is an essay which analyses the stock market and the tendency of the rise and fall of the stocks in price. It is a kind of practical article with the development of stock market. The most obvious characteristic of stock comment language is the application of fuzziness. As the stock market is very complicated and full of uncertainties and sometimes because of certain subjective reasons of some stock analysts, there are a lot of fuzzy words in the language of stock comment. This thesis focuses on the study of fuzziness of language in stock comment. It first reviews academic research on fuzziness home and abroad and states the importance of fuzzy language in terms of its definition and some related confusing terms--- fuzziness, vagueness, ambiguity. In this thesis, a large number of latest examples on analysis of stock have been collected to study the fuzzy nature of language in them. The features and causes of fuzziness in stock comment are also stated. Then, on the bases of these practical examples, it analyzes how fuzziness is realized and what functions it performs in stock comment language. From pragmatic perspective, by employing case study, first, it analyzes fuzzy language in stock comment grounded on Grice's Cooperative Principle, mainly on the flouting of some maxims. Besides, face-threatening theory in Politeness Principle is adopted to study the function of fuzziness in maintaining the face of analysts. This thesis holds that adopting fuzziness in stock comment may achieve the functions of increasing creditability and appropriateness, protecting oneself, withholding information, being polite, etc. Therefore, analyzing the fuzzy words from pragmatic perspective can deepen our understanding of the characteristics of fuzziness of stock comment language, especially for stock investors and thus can treat it correctly.
