English belongs to West Germanic languages branch of Germanic languages group of Indo-European languages family. After being experienced through Old English, Middle English to Modern English of more than 1500 years' evolution and development, now it becomes an international language. In recent years, lots of research have been taken on Modern English internationalization which are mostly from the angle of English linguistics. In this isolated way of study, the orderly developing history of English was neglected. This thesis focuses on "Internationalization", threads up the development of English from old period to modern, and thus analyzes the reasons, influence and realistic significance that English internationalization brings.English was originated from Anglo-Saxon which was formed after the conquest of Celts, Roman and Germanic. After Norman Conquest in 1066, there were three major languages in Britain, namely, French, Latin and English. Until the 15th century, middle-eastern dialect obtained the status as national standard language. Being influenced by French and Latin, Middle English became simplifier in word form and grammar, therefore, transformed gradually from synthetic language to analytic one. From the year of 1500, due to religious reformation, the Renaissance, bourgeois revolution and imperial expansion, English has become an international language. After World War II, rely on America's priority in politics, economy, military, science and technology, culture, education, international trade and etc., American English has taken the principal part of English language. Meanwhile, due to cultural, sports and artistic communication between nations and people, English culture spreads all over the world day by day and trends the development of internationalization, localization, facilitation, moralization and Americanization. Now, English is accelerating its internationalization and regionalization, and becomes an English language family which is dominated by British English and American English, and along with the development of Canadian English, Australian English, New Zealand English, Caribbean English, Irish English, Indian English, the South African English, Singapore English, Malaysian English, Hong Kong English and so on.Through the Research on Process of English Internationalization, we can find that vicissitude of history, thought transforming, colonial expansion, increasing immigration, development of science and technology and frequent international communication are the primary factors which led to English internationalization. But along with the invasion of English culture, the linguistic "imperialism" of English language has got negative influence on the world languages, many weak national language borders on extinction, therefore various countries initiate the movement of guarding the purity of their languages. At the same time, the environment of English internationalization and localization evokes us to study and reform the method of introducing both English culture and Chinese culture to students during the process of English teaching in our country. As the influence of any international language is dominated by its national economy and politics, the current status of English cannot be substituted easily in 21st century, but English will undergo further trial. While with the enhancement of Chinese international status, Chinese language will become an international language in the future.
