Cognitive diagnosis is the core of test theory for a new generation ,it is the product of the combination of cognitive psychology and modern measurement theory. Nowadays cognitive diagnosis have become an important hotspot in psychometrical research. Based on cognitive diagnosis, We assess a student don't only report his single scores on an exam,We can report student's attribute-mastery patterns and provide useful diagnosis information to student. The rule space model, developed by Tatsuoka ,is one of the cognitive diagnosis models. It is the product of the combination of cognitive psychology , item response theory and multistatistic theory . With the application of statistical pattern recognition techniques, the rule space model can infer test-takers'response patterns according to their actual response patterns and classifies them into different attribute-mastery patterns ,which describe the knowledge structure respectively . This research applies the rule space methodology to exploring students'underlying attributes which can't be directly found according to the test-takers'performance in a chemical test . This theses uses the rule space model to diagnose 199 students'chemical compound knowledge in junior high school. It is identified that 91.46% of the students can be classified into 21 kinds of ideal attribute response patterns. Moreover, few researchers in our country continue to do further work on how to remedy according to the students'diagnosis reports, this theses continue to make some study about how to design remedial measures based on cognitive diagnosis reports.
