Objective: The aim of this study was to: (1) define the concept of general cognitive ability; (2) develop a new General Cognitive Ability Test and (3) examine the reliability and validity of the test.Method: First, through the consult massive domestic and foreign literature, gives this research to the general cognitive ability definition, in this foundation, unifies the information processing theory, synthesizes domestic and foreign to general cognitive ability test theory and the practical research, preliminary establishment general cognitive ability test (first draft) theory frame. Next, administer the general cognitive ability test (first draft), the effective testee is 135 (female 75, male 60), through statistical analysis, item analysis, expert interview, to general cognitive ability test (first draft) the items carries on the essential deletion and the revision, simultaneously determined the time of the five examinations, thus forms the general cognitive ability test. Finally, examine the reliability and validity of the test, the effective testee is 243 (female 149, male 94), selects re-reliability coefficient to examine the test reliability, examined the criterion validity and the structure validity.result:1,general cognitive ability definition. The research demonstrated that,(1) the general cognitive ability test total score with three schoolwork total scores, mathematics result correlation had been achieved the level of significance, respectively was 0.530 ** and 0.389*, but with the language, English result correlation has not achieved the significance level.(2) between the general cognitive ability test total score and mathematics, English appraisal correlation had achieved the level of significance, respectively was 0.352* and 0.359*, but has not achieved the significance level with the language appraisalConclusion: Generally speaking, general cognitive ability test has good reliability, the structure validity and the criterion connection validity, but also has the further consummation need in the different minute examination.
