Study On The Artistic Language Of Experimental Animation

Experimental animation rose in the early twenties at the twenty century. Experimental animation is a creative artistic style of cartoon, which goes beyond the theoretical range of academic studies, and shows the practical meaning of animation. The research of the artists on this field drives the development of experimental animation art and leads to a plenty of top level experimental animation. The theoretical exploration on experimental animation at home and abroad is very limited so far, in particular, on the systemic research of experimental animation art. The thesis is therefore to study the characteristics of the artistic language of experimental animation, illustrate the art value, and to prospect its future development.The theory of experimental animation belongs to the film theory. The theory of this thesis is based on the theory of film, with film science, semeiology, and theory on superrealism for reference to analyze the typical film cases and to carry further reasoning, Due to the limitation on documentary of experimental animation art, the thesis will use the methodologies of case studies, interviews, documentary research and creative experience. The argumentation will be proved by relevant western theories, with reference to foreign books on experimental animation.The thesis discusses the characteristics of art language and art value of experimental animation, and helps a bit on enriching the theoretical system of experimental animation, and uses the theoretical results as guidance to the creative experience of experimental animation. The author proposes the opinion that animation materials, as animation ontology language visual, compose component influence and limit the topics on creation. The works of experimental animation artists of Czech and Japan is also analyzed, to conclude the characteristics of art language of experimental animation, to explain the dominating characteristics of experimental animation in exploring and pioneering. The possibility of the future development of experimental animation, by analyzing the impetus of experimental animation in the given culture background is also discussed.
