In traditional society, women, as the accessories of men, have regarded tenderness and obedience as virtues and developed a role orientation featuring the absence of knowledge, desire and ability. The female intelligence and boldness have been limited to daily chores and maintenance of kindred and neighborhoods relationship. In modern society, women's liberation movement has broken the situation of gender discrimination, and women began to pursue the value and status of being "a human". Some highly educated women with broadened outlook even have demanded to participate in social affairs and to achieve self-realization.As known to all, the history about women was trapped in family. The oppression and discrimination which patriarchy culture imposed on women were carried out via Family. It was this special relation between women and family that has made female writers laid more emphasis on family life.In her books, Wang Hailing have successively taken marriage and family as subjects to reflect the reality. She showed the impacts brought by the competitive and changeable society on marriage and family life through the depiction of life in different periods, and also paid attention to the educated women in "Fortress Besieged" from various perspectives. All these have revealed contemporary educated women's sufferings, confusions, awakening, rebellion and gradual maturity in marriage life, thus shaping typical images of women under different family life and presenting us a unique world of them. This thesis will focus on the destiny and emotions of educated women, which having both social and literary significance.The thesis is divided into five parts. The preface will mainly discuss the marriage problem of educated women is a social issue worth concerning, and reflections of such problem can be found in Wang Hailing's works. The first chapter will describe the marriage life of educated women before and after reform and opening-up. The second chapter will give a detailed analysis of four kinds of female images in marriage entanglement in the works of Wang Hailing. In the third chapter, it will deal with aesthetical changes of the novels in new period in shaping China's contemporary educated women, Wang Hailing's inheritance and development of "female writing" and the self-breakthrough of modern educated women.
