Bai Juyi was a remarkable pragmatic poet and a talented critic in music during the Tang Dynasty. The magnificent musical atmosphere of Tang Dynasty had inspired him in the making of his mesmerizing and fascinating poems in critic in music. His poems which contain elements of music had been one of the most spectacular ones in the era of Tang Poems. Among his three hundred and thirty poems that related to music found in "Quan Tang Shi" (which means 'The Complete Collection of Tang Poems'), about 20 of them are of Chinese harp "Zheng", it showed that "Zheng" has played an important role in the history of Chinese Poems."Zheng" was invented by Chinese in Qin Dynasty three thousand years ago. As time went by, this particular musical instrument with graceful sound had developed well and became very popular in Tang Dynasty. For "Poem of Zheng", on top of the existing ones, Bai Juyi created poems of its kind that carries a strong characteristic of his own. While his poems mostly described the musical instrument, melody and musician of "Zheng", a large portion of them also displayed his feelings and emotional reactions after listening to the music.Apart from that, he liked to create poems through "Zheng" music as well. Besides showing his self content to life, his poems also expressed sadness and urge for not being able to find someone who could really appreciate his art works. The poems widely stated his concerns of the political situation and ambition in politics; besides, they also expressed his praise to classical music and condemnation to colloquium music and the concept of aesthetic of music; other than that, poems describing friendship could easily be found in his master pieces. In terms of quantity, Bai Juyi's poems of Zheng have only contributed to a small portion of poems created in Tang Dynasty; however, as supplementary sources for the research of Chinese history and literature, they are no doubt useful, substantial and valuable.
