On Rhetoric Of Chinese Basic Color Words

This paper studies on the rhetorical connotation, characteristics, cultural origin of Chinese basic color words, as well as the rhetoric function of "color morphemes" in constructing the meaning of color words and the psychological mechanism forming it. By studying them, we can have a better understanding of the polysemous connotation, characteristics and its formation of the eight basic color words. Basing on this, the paper reveals that the formation of the rhetoric of color words is the result of the effect of many elements such as culture, politics, folk custom, production practice and religion and that it is also connected with people's psychological association and understanding, some has something to do with the frequent use of figures of rhetoric.
