This thesis describes the political struggle of ethnic Chinese for equality in Canada and its positive role in the development of Canada's Multiculturalism policy. Specifically, it focuses on the advent of Chinese community organizations in Canada and the way that the Chinese organizations led Chinese community to fight against the racism from the host community. It also discusses the historical importance of Chinese political struggle in the change of Canadian immigration policies and the formation of Canadian's multicultural society. What is more, it demonstrates the change of Chinese community after the adoption of multiculturalism policy. For one thing, economic needs and international circumstance contributed to the evolution of Canadian immigration policy from"white Canada"to Multiculturalism policy in postwar period. Moreover, the political equality and cultural identification of Chinese in Canada have been accompanied with their persisting struggle against racism and the new characteristics of the postwar Chinese immigrants.
