The development of art is not isolated , it always has something to do with the set background, bearing different forms of art and receive modes with the development of the art stage in different social stages.G. W. F. Hegel once divided the art phylogeny into three artistic styles ,saying Symbolic art,Classical Art and Romantic Art according to the relationship between the content and form. In these three periods, painting forms appears with the contradiction between content and form, enriching the art history .However , the development of art proves that the development of Art History is not the overlying of art forms. While keeping the essence of his own , artists could borrow manifestation modes from the others ,which is the best way to perfect one's own style. As the representatives of neoclassicism and romanticism,Jean Auguste Dominique and E. Delacroix stands out in the development of art which reveals to us .The development and maturity of neoclassicism and romanticism is connected with certain social background. The nineteenth century western artistic ideological trends are all result of the social life instead of being the phylogeny of its own. Also the stylistic changes of the artists come from the modern thoughts and philosophical concept. By art, the artists express the judgement to social life; by society , the works of art express the social empathy ,involving the complicated anthropogenic factor . From these subjective and objective factors, neoclassicism and romanticism forms two featured schools. As the leader of his own school, the painting contention between Jean Auguste Dominique and E. Delacroix highlighted the art society. After David, Auguste ,the acknowledged representative of neoclassicism in Art History, made great breakthrough in both painting form and painting language ,inheriting and innovating the art forms and performance of the concept ancient and modern ,all of which prompts the development of the art today. The struggle between sketching and coloring definitely shows the contradiction between Auguste Dominique and E. Delacroix from a central issue. This struggle argues which is better artificially but indeed it argues about the value of art, whether it comes from the ideas and creativity of the artists or it is the vivid imitation of the real nature. The real reason lies in the inheritance of the tradition and innocence of the times. Sketching and coloring are both basic components for painting which are inseparable. For artists, art is to absorb and show; for painter, the best way is to form one's own style by colligating and integrating the most outstanding merits of the masters. The same pursuit for World Culture also shows the different emphasis. The collision between national cultural heritage and modern western culture is a main stream concept in Chinese modern art. In the influence of Auguste Dominique and E. Delacroix, Chinese painting is relevant to the development times in 1980s and 1990s bearing the feathers : All subjects and themes reflecting the changes in the society corresponded with the need to get away from the mental slavery and to move forward. The attitude to show the real life and earnest expressed emotion won the attention from the whole society.Idealistic thoughts tried to relieve the conflict between frustration and ideal and built a mentally fine society and idylle, avoiding the cruel effect on the spirit from the reality. With globalization coming into reality , different forms of art are competing for their own art stage taking an entirely new posture. Under the collision between east and west , traditional and modern ,diversification is coming into form . With humanity and literature as background , where the way lies is an important question for us to think about. The article can be divided into three parts. The first part briefly introduces neoclassicism and romanticism. The second part , body of the passage, talks about the inspiration to modern art from the painting contention between Jean Auguste Dominique and E. Delacroix. The last part is about the trend of the Chinese art after the two thoughts and the influence on the author as well.
