The Evolution Of Female Images In Neoclassicism To Impressionism Painting

The social situation in France in the 18th-19 th century was turbulent.After the French Revolution,the economy and culture developed rapidly,and the people’s life changed greatly.Art also gradually transitioned from Neoclassicism to Impressionism.The female theme had a heavy weight in the paintings of these two periods,and had a great evolution in character image and style.Starting with the female image paintings in the two periods,this paper first analyzes the changes of female image identity.There are certain differences from appearance characteristics to social status.The female images in Neoclassical paintings are mainly noble women and religious mythological images,while Impressionist painters turn their attention to the description of civilian images and express what they see and feel in daily life;Secondly,by comparing the paintings of the two periods,this paper discusses the differences in the language style of female image painting from the three aspects of composition,modeling and color.Neoclassical paintings advocate rigorous and rational composition and modeling,and the character image is more realistic and attaches importance to the sketch relationship.In contrast,Impressionist painting,painters directly use color to shape the character modeling,the lines are rough and random,loose and free strokes,and pay attention to the subtle changes of light and color.Through reading literature,image analysis and comparative research,this paper analyzes the differences of female image paintings in the two periods,and deeply analyzes the external influence and internal factors of their evolution.The progress of human civilization promotes the development of social economy.At the same time,people’s ideas are also changing.Female images in paintings in different historical periods are given different roles and characteristics,which reflects that female’s social status is also changing under different social backgrounds.
