Human' Temporal lobe and the hippocampus within it play an important role in our memory process. As a result, the impairment of temporal lobe may result the impairment of memory. Surgical operation-antior temporalobectomy(ATL) is an effective way to treat temporal lobe epilepsy. A lot of studies about the role of temporal lobe and hippocampus in memory of epiletptic patients have been made abroad. To research the temporal lobe and hippocampus how to work in our memory, the paper studied the object naming memory, recognition memory and spatial memory of intractable epileptic patiets after antior temporalobectomy, and further analyses the consequences of hippocampal sclerosis(HS) on memory. Results of the two experiments showed that:1,left ATL but not right ATL impaired the memory of objects naming memory, suggested that left temporal lobe but not right temporal lobe related to the verbal memory.2,The memory of recognition was not impaired after Left ATL as well as right ATL. the ajancent cortics but not hippocampus may play a role in recognition.3,The spatial memory was impaired after left ATL and right ATL,while the degree of impairment in left ATL was lower than the right ATL. right hippocampus plays a important role in spatial memery, and especially involves in allocentric but not egocentric spatial memory.4,Left HS but not right and non-HS impaired object naming memory; left HS and right HS and non-HS did not impaired recognition memory, hippocampus did not involve recognition memory. right HS but not left HS impaired spatial memory, and the patients without HS show spatial memory impairment after ATL.
