On Moral Tolerance

Although the issue of moral tolerance exists since ancient times,but it draws academic attention only recently.Exploring the moral issues of tolerance in today's society has both theoretical and practical values.However,so far the academic study of moral tolerance is insufficient.The thesis is divided into three parts to discuss "moral tolerance".The first part explores the definition of moral tolerance,which is the logical starting point of thesis.As a tolerant,moral tolerance means that moral individuals hold a tolerant attitude towards "the other",and it' s basic connotation is "tolerating the other".Being different from connivance of tolerance,moral tolerance is opposite to moral arbitrariness.The second part discusses the possibility of moral tolerance.This part mainly starts from four aspects: First of all,it discusses the objective conditions of moral tolerance,holding that moral difference is the objective premise of moral tolerence,stressing that the necessary social conditions of moral tolerance mainly include:creating an atmosphere of moral tolerance,building a multimoral value system,strengthening the education of moral tolerance. Second,it analyzes the subjective conditions of moral tolerance,that is,the agent's moral cognitive ability,moral sensitivity,moral accomplishment and Practical ability. Third,it analyzes the possibility of moral tolerance to become avirtue.Finally,it discusses the limits of moral tolerance. Moral tolerance has a limit.In other words,it is not to tolerance without a border.That is,as long as "he" doesn't step over the border of our tolerance,we should tolerate. Otherwise,we should not tolerate.The third part discusses the theoretical and practical significance of moral tolerance.Seen from its theoretical significance,researching moral tolerance expands the fundamental theoretical research in Ethics.It is beneficial not only to reveal the meaning of moral tolerance, characteristics,nature and law,but also to deepen our theoretical examination of multicultural society Value.Seen from the practical significance,it is beneficial to reveal the fact of moral differences and the possibility of resolving it,to publicize the virtue of moral tolerance in the real moral life,and to promote the direction of harmonious value in the real moral life.
