A Pragmatic Study On The Application Of Vagueness In Business Correspondence

Vagueness in language use has been studied for many years by many scholars and researchers at home and broad.With the appearance of Zadeh's "fuzzy sets" theory in 1965,more and more people study vague language.In China,the study of fuzzy language initialed put forward by Prof.Wu Tieping in his book Preliminary Study of Fuzzy Language in the late 1970s.Research about the usage of vague language has arisen in recent years.Vagueness language is not only used as a way of language communication in our daily life,but also plays an important role in business correspondence.It has been a necessary negotiation skill that business people must grasp.The present research will study the usage of vagueness in business correspondence.By analyzing from pragmatic perspectives,it aims at revealing the pragmatic and communicative function of vagueness language in business affairs,changing people's negative views about vagueness usage in business correspondence.The study result will enrich the researches about vagueness and the application of vagueness language in business communication.At the same time,it will provide guidance in business correspondence writing for business people who are engaged in international trade in order to improve the quality and efficiency of business communication.
