American Revolution was the beginning of a new nation, which affected every aspects of American society. As an important part of American culture , religion affected American Revolution through the different attitude and position of each denomination, and accepted the effects of American Revolution.On the base of forefathers, this article will have a main clue which is the contradiction of the early development of colony, the contradiction of different denominations during American Revolution and the adjustment of every contradiction of different denominations during American Revolution and after American Revolution. This article will particularly analyze the different attitude and position of different denominations during American Revolution from three aspects, which are the situation of religion before American Revolution, the different attitude and position of different denominations during American Revolution and the analysis of the reasons and effects of it.First, in America, religion is not only an important part of American culture, but also is an essential factor of society. From the coming of the first immigrant, American religion began two developing processes of denominations, which were diversification and indigenization. And on the effects of European culture and the special environment of North America, religion displayed the character, which was liberty,secularity and practicability. This made a lot of denominations participated in secular issues positively in American Revolution. And because of religion and realistic politics, they had serious divergence.Second, during the American Revolution, each denomination participated politics positively. There were many contradictions between different denominations and in the same denomination. In Anglican, some of them supported Britain, some of them supported America, some of them supported peace. In other Protestant denominations, Baptist, Presbyterian Church and Congregational Church supported American Revolution in the main. Methodist Church had every attitude toward American Revolution like Anglican. Some of the Quakers supported the peace, some of them supported Britain. Due to the opposing of Britain, the Catholic supported American Revolution.Third, the different attitude and position of different denominations was not only a phenomenon of religion, but also was an important part of American Revolution. It accelerated the process of the American Revolution, effected the development of American society, and religion also changed itself in this process.
