Poems and songs are often cited into the text of the Chinese classical novel as a commonly used technique of expression, this phenomenon is the topic which many Chinese and foreign scholars pay attention, but massive which appears frequently regarding the seventeen years war novels in the "poems" and "songs", the present research results are very few.This paper takes the "poems" and "songs" which inserts the seventeen years war novels as a research object. First of all, find out the sources of the "poems" and "songs", and put their content in order. Then, specific analysis the reasons of why the "poems" and "songs" were cited into the novels: the influence of the creation of Traditional Chinese classical novels, as well as the promotion of the different complicated social factors during the seventeen years. Next, explain the text functions of the "poems" and "songs" in long war novel in the seventeen years war novels: create characters, form a narrative style, the expression of state ideology. In the creative process of the text, these four respect functions permeate each other, produce each other. Finally, analyze from both vertical and horizontal: compare the same phenomenon of which the "poems" and "songs" as the citation in the seventeen years novels with the classical Chinese novels, the new novels after the May Fourth Movement, the rural novels of the seventeen years as the same period. Try to grasp the gain and loss of the seventeen years novels which cited the "poems" and "songs".Undoubtedly, the analysis of the "poems" and "songs" in the seventeen years novels as a research object can make research of the war novels abundant and expansible.
