The music in Tarkovsky's movies is a mysterious sanctuary with profound meanings. This thesis begins with running through and analyzing the music in his four movies Sacrifice, Nostalgia, Stalker and Mirror. The main characters and techniques of expression are then pointed out and the symbolic understandings of the music which are mechanical are disproved. In conclusion, the thesis proposes a proper way of interpretation.
