With the development of the researches on the history of TSCL and Sinology,the Sinologist T.F.Wade gets more and more focus.This thesis will discuss the Chinese Textbook Y(u|¨) YEN TZ(?)(?)RH CHI written by the Sinologist T.F.Wade.The first chapter is a brief introduction concerning on the history about the learning materials on TSCL written by foreigners.The second chapter reviews the researches on T.F.Wade and Y(u|¨) YEN TZ(?)(?)RH CHI, summarizing the conclusions and pointing out the demerits of them that ignored the Sinologist T.F.Wade.And meanwhile studies on Y(u|¨) YEN TZ(?)(?)RH CHI still have increasing spaces.Refer to the past researches all put their points on diploma career of T.F.Wade.The materials about Sinologist T.F.Wade are still in scattered.So the third chapter portrays the profile of T.F.Wade and his works from the point of view on Sinologist.Throughout it,it is found that the relationship between his past experience and the works,especially Y(u|¨) YEN TZ(?)(?)RH CHI.From the forth chapter to sixth one,Y(u|¨) YEN TZ(?)(?)RH CHI is totally researched in different aspects.Up to now,four editions has been presented to the public in China successively.Each edition did some adjustments on the content and the style sheet as well. The forth chapter has a brief introduction about these four editions,and then expounds the second edition which is unabridged and well reserved in the integrity.Finally, compares the Forty Exercises in first and second edition.We can get the viewpoint from the comparison that the changes in different editions not only embody the cognition belonging to the editor on textbook editing,but also reflect the history of TSCL itself.In the fifth chapter,Y(u|¨) YEN TZ(?)(?)RH CHI is put into when it came into this world, to answer the reason why it was edited and published as well as its spread and influence, we should confirm the influence given by the times.Meanwhile,this chapter comments the position of Y(u|¨) YEN TZ(?)(?)RH CHI in the history of TCSL that it started the age of teaching of Peking Dialect as a second language.The sixth chapter sets about from those whom Y(u|¨) YEN TZ(?)(?)RH CHI edited for and sums up the features of the textbook in pronunciation,language style,the aim and the way to edit the textbook.These are also the internal reason why Y(u|¨) YEN TZ(?)(?)RH CHI won the fame.Though Y(u|¨) YEN TZ(?)(?)RH CHI is the Chinese textbook appeared one hundred years ago,the ideas haven't been out of fashion.In the basis of the sixth chapter,the last chapter discusses about the instruction about the Y(u|¨) YEN TZ(?)(?)RH CHI to the textbook editing nowadays.
