Luo Yang's wall paintings in the tombs of Han Dynasties are the most gorgeous classical flowers in the long history of Chinese art. They fully represented the matured aesthetic skills of Han Dynasties' art. The large momentum and the pristine artistic techniques of Han tombs wall paintings of Luo Yang had not only greatly influenced Chinese paintings but also possessed a crucial position in the history of Chinese arts.Han Dynasty was a period of strengthening and developing the feudal system of Chinese society. With the enhancing of the economy and the improving of the national power, Confucianism became rather popular. Accordingly, the custom of rich funerals prevailed in the society. As significant representatives of Han arts, it is necessary to research Han tombs wall paintings in Luo Yang. Han arts had taken an important position in the development of traditional Chinese arts. Therefore, Han tombs wall paintings of Luo Yang had essentially showed contemporary artistic levels of the central areas. The wall paintings of the Han Tombs had a long history, a big amount, a good art and a variety of themes. It is rare in China.This thesis paper focuses on the modeling features, characteristics of composition and painting style and strategies of the Han tombs wall paintings in Luoyang, proposing that tri-angular composition and rectangular composition are generally adopted in character modeling. By referring to the "six principles" of painting as a standard, the author of this paper gives a close interpretation to the artistic spirit, modeling features, painting style and strategies of the Han tombs wall paintings in Luoyang, as well as to the influence it has exerted on later generations. The aesthetic theories and the painting practice are brought into mutual verification, meanwhile, comparisons and analyses are made concerning the relations among different patterns of painting in the same period The paper is composed of three chapters. Chapter One is a summary of the internal and external factors which contribute to the formation of the Han tombs wall paintings in Luoyang. The major painting subjects and contents of the wall paintings are specifically classified in a chronological order. Chapter Two elaborates on the modeling features, characteristics of composition and painting style and strategies of the Han tombs wall paintings in Luoyang according to the "six principles" of painting. Chapter Three concentrates on the artistic significance and impact of the Han tombs wall paintings in Luoyang.
