Study Of Tenses System In Mandarin Chinese Sentences Constituted By Predicate Verb

This paper discussed tenses system in Mandarin Chinese sentences.The author intended to demonstrate from the perspective of Modern Standard Chinese sentences constituted by predicate verb that:Functional Category,context and style of Modern Standard Chinese sentences are factors that have selective restriction functions on covert tenses.Based upon unique observations of temporal words,relative adverbs,verbal particles, modal auxiliary,hypothetical clauses constituted by predicate verb and some fixed projections in Mandarin Chinese,the author defined and concluded tenses markers in section 3.Representation mechanism of time-expression in Mandarin Chinese is examined in section 4.It is shown that there are two kinds of time information in languages:abstract information of tenses delivered by grammatical form and concrete information of time delivered by lexical form. The author also explored how tense is manifested via various structural expressions in Mandarin Chinese and how they are analyzable under the core feature of reference of tenses.The goal of this section is to seek how tenses,as a temporal structural builder of language,is interpreted via reference time in Mandarin Chinese.Speech time which tense can be demonstrated from always to be the definite reference-point of time information in Modern Standard Chinese sentences. Lastly,the author proposes a principle that the locations of Event Time and Reference Time will be the same side to Speech time on time axis.And 8 models of tense have been illustrated by functions and diagrams.
