A Sociolinguistics Study Of The WanQing Loanwords

Loanword is truly an usual phenomena when different languages contact each other.Also as one kind of sociolinguistic appearances,loanwords can greatly enrich our language and push our language forward.WanQing period,which played as an unusual changing age,once gave some exceptional variations to the Chinese language,especially in the loanwords area.That is why WanQing loanwords can play a typical role for the systemic adopted words research.Thus according to analyzing the accommodation between the phenomena of WanQing loanwords and those social condition,this thesis puts emphasis on proving the covariance of language and society.This paper falls into 3 chapters:Chapter one:the preface,beginning with a brief review of those research on loanwords by both domestic and alien scholars,then based on those studies,this paper places its attention on WanQing loanwords,and creatively regards the interaction between the concurrent loanwords and society-culture as a whole in order to make some valuable extension into the sociolinguistics field.Chapter two:This part tries to describe the large-scale influx of WanQing loanwords in terms of three aspects,introduction periods,sources and channels,so as to build a generally diachronic and synchronic society-related framework of those borrowed words.Chapter three:It principally draws sociology theories into the studies of WanQing loanwords,which involves three parts:studies of social class,social use and the interact between society and those new words.From the view of sociolinguistics,this chapter concretely investigates how the WanQing social context caused the acceptation of those new words and how those loanwords effected the society at that time,then we can prove the covariance of language and society in both diachronic and synchronic field.Although the study on loanwords before can be viewed as abundant,this kind of analysis,which combines loanwords and sociology theory together,is still new and potential at the present time.This thesis exactly attempts to make some sociologic innovation into the loanword study area.
