It is concerned that currently the Cooperative Learning and Mastery Learning have become two of the most popular teaching modes.Cooperative Learning utilizes the active elements of teaching to promote studying.Its basic organization is learning groups.Its standard of evaluation is the group performance.Cooperative Learning can develop students' consciousness and skills of cooperation.Moreover,it can also enhance the relationship between students and teachers.Mastery Learning was raised by Bloom with the basic idea of "Study for mastery,teach for mastery".Mastery Learning achieves its teaching goals via the evaluation,which makes most students have good academic performance.This teaching mode is a combination of the individual teaching and group teaching.It also considers the regular feedback and individual help as its supplement. Mastery Learning can promote students' learning ability and self-confidence,and its most advantage is to enable the vast majority of students to master the content effectively.These two strategies have been applied in classroom teaching effectively.The already study has proved that If the Cooperative Learning and Mastery Learning could be combined,the effect would be better.But there are two facts.One is that the present study pay much more attention to a single teaching mode—Cooperative Learning or Mastery Learning.The other one is that those who are familiar with these two strategies usually can recognize the common theoretical premise,but they do not study much about how to combine the two strategies and implement the new strategy.Considering these two facts,this paper firstly analyzes the definition,basic elements,theoretical foundation,basic ideas and practical strategies,and then finds the common characters of the two,finally gives a practical strategy.In order to examine the effectiveness of the new strategy,that is to examine the effectiveness of cooperative-mastery learning used in classroom teaching of senior 1.This paper chooses two classrooms from the first middle school in Yancheng.These two classrooms are both in the south campus,and one is a experimental class which uses the cooperative-mastery learning strategy.The other one is a controlled class,which uses the traditional teaching method.This experiment lasts for two months.Its aim is to examine if the cooperative-mastery learning have effect on the improvement of students' academic performance,consciousness and skills of cooperation.This study mainly adopts the methods of questionnaire and action research.In practice research,this paper tests and verifies that the cooperative-mastery learning strategy is effective in English class in senior high school.Cooperative-mastery learning which has been used in English classroom of senior 1 is an effective teaching mode.This mode can gather advantages of Cooperative Learning and Mastery Learning and promote students' academic achievements,the consciousness and Skills of cooperation.
