Imitation is a nature of human beings and the history of arts almost began with imitation.Studying from the special geographical condition and living environment,the paper concerns the relationship between copy and the creation of Chinese flower-and-bird painting in the light of the law of the development of visual arts and the trait in studying the Chinese fine arts from Song Dynasty to Yuan Dynasty.It probes into the techniques and theories from an academic perspective,trying to prove that imitation with one's own thinking is a efficient way from copy and combining with painting from nature to creation of the Chinese fine arts of flower-and-bird—including mountain-and-water,figure painting. There are four parts in this paper.Firstly,it discusses from theory why the Chinese fine arts lay stress on copy and imitation in order to strengthen art students' conviction.Secondly,Chen Hongshou,Qi Baishi and Pan Tianshou's stories of studying the traditional Chinese painting make the readers understand that the key of studying the traditional Chinese painting is not the print quality of the original paintings but one's idea. And imitation with one's special thinking is a best way from copy to creation.Thirdly,with analyzing an example and teaching by demonstration,it discusses the significance of the theory and technique of the imitation with one's own thinking in pushing the development of the traditional Chinese painting forward Yuan Dynasty from Song Dynasty.It probes into the change of the idea of Chinese painting from the perspective of the technique,which is a good example for students to set a new style of the Chinese painting.Finally,the paper lays a special emphasis that imitation with one's own thinking is only a learning way.A good painter must study diligently and train hard on painting from nature, calligraphy,culture and morality.The concern of imitation with one's own thinking and the creation of the traditional Chinese fine arts flower-and-bird is concluded by a comparison of original painting and copy as well as a summarized analysis of related document.
