Foreign Language Anxiety is a kind of emotional state in foreign language learning,such as nervous,fear,apprehension and so on.A series of research about college students' foreign language anxiety founded that it is one of the most key emotional variables in language learning.Therefore,the phenomenon of foreign language anxiety has attracted the attention of researchers.They have worked a series of empirical studies on college students'foreign language anxiety in our country;however,there is very little concrete evidence research on it in the northwest part of our country.The survey is made to a randomly-selected subject sample of 625 students from Qinghai University and Qinghai Normal University with the following instruments:Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale, NEO-FF1 Personality Test Scale,State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and subjects' scores in CET-4.This dissertation aims to reveal the condition of college students' foreign language anxiety,the correlation between personality factors,state-trait anxiety and foreign language anxiety,as well as the relationship between the foreign language anxiety and foreign language learning performance.Meanwhile,coping strategies on foreign language anxiety are indicated to reduce the negative affects.The conclusions of the results are as follows:1,There is significant sexual difference on the foreign language anxiety;the anxiety of male students is evidently higher than of the female students.On the aspects of Test Anxiety and Anxiety on Foreign Language Lesson,the degree of male students is higher than of the female students,while there is no significant difference on the aspects of communication apprehension and fear of negative evaluation.2,There is significant major difference on the full score and its four aspects of college students' foreign language anxiety,the degree of arts students is higher than of the science students.3,There is no significant grade difference on the full score of foreign language anxiety.On the aspect of Test Anxiety,the degree of the freshmen and the junior students are higher than of the sophomore;on anxiety of foreign language lesson,the degree of the junior students is the highest. 4,There is distinct difference on foreign language anxiety between the college students from Qinghai province and those from other provinces,the degree of college students from Qinghai province is higher than of those from other provinces; there is no distinct difference between the students from urban and rural areas.5,There is significant positive correlation between foreign language anxiety and neuroticism,and there is also significant negative correlation between foreign language anxiety and agreeableness.Neuroticism can forecast foreign language anxiety well,while agreeableness can't do that;there is significant positive correlation between state anxiety,trait anxiety and foreign language anxiety, moreover,they can forecast foreign language anxiety well.6,There is significant negative correlation between foreign language anxiety and foreign language learning performance,foreign language anxiety can forecast their performance on foreign language learning well.
