The Northeastern Da Gu is a music and art form widely spread in Liao Ning, Ji Lin, Heilongjiang, Beijing, Tianjin, Inner Mongolia and some other areas. It features at strong smack of everyday life, obvious local characteristics, smooth and wonderful arias and it even suits both refined and popular tastes. It has greatly influenced the Chinese Northern people and has been gradually developing into the most historical, profound and widely spread music and art form. It not only has mature form and its own system, but positively affects its fellow arts and has outstanding academic, art value. But like many other Chinese traditional musical form, the present situation of Northeastern Da Gu is extremely concerned since its performance has almost disappeared. Therefore, saving, protecting and sustaining this over-200-year-old excellent music form are our urgent task. This thesis has taken a research on the basis of Northeastern Da Gu's history and existence surroundings. It has analyzed the sustaining possibility according to the existing social conditions and conceived how to practise and sustain Da Gu of Northeastern in modern social conditions, which is hoped to be beneficial to this musical form's substance and development.
