Arnold Joseph Toynbee's View Of Nature Based On Humanism

The problem of man and nature brought forward by times to men is a great task. Toynbee put forward his view and scheme from a historian's perspective. But this perspective of Toynbee was ignored by historians, I study Toynbee's view of nature based on humannism in order to roundly comprehend Toynbee, the relation of man and nature and society.I study his view by reading his many works including his theory of culture trait and practice of historiography. His theory came from the personal experience and the changes of times, was a continuity of development of the philosophy of history and was inspired by Bergson'theory of"life-impulse". Then his theoretical core firstly displayed humanism. This article mainly was set forth from three aspects: the courses of environmental issues'appearance was self-centered, men's ability to cool decided the relationship of man and nature, in addition, coordination of man and nature needed men's spirit of self-determination. Secondly, his theoretical core displayed the tendency of cosmopolitanism. Toynbee'macro perspective and overall theory constituted theoretical basis of cosmopolitanism. Then, the tendency of this theory was mainly demonstrated from two aspects: man and nature was unified whole and delivered ecological crisis with world government and universal religion. Again, Arnold Joseph Toynbee's theory of man and nature displayed Chinese model. This mainly reflected at delivering ecological crisis with Confucian culture and studying reasonable component from Chinese model. Finally, I thought this theory of man and nature and pointed out that the advantages and shortcomings that exited on tendency of humanism,overall view of cosmopolitanism and Chinese model based on Arnold Joseph Toynbee'theory of man and nature.From this study we could know the origin,the theory and content of Toynbee'view of nature based on humannism. Although it was not perfict, but we can acquire many help.
