Norman oversea expansion is the problem that has no way to avoid in Middle Ages. The Western scholars have studied it deeply from 1950s and 1960s. But there is few studies about this topic in domestice academic area. In recent years, as the development of technology as well as archaeology, more and more Viking-age relics were excavated,especially silver coins were also explorted, providing supports to Norman footmarks of sweeping over the length and breadth of the Europe.The paper briefly analyses Norman overseas activities by the method of combining Archaeology with the study of historical materials. And then it reveals clearly far-reaching effect of Norman in European history, especially Norman overseas expansion has made contributions to trade and settlement. The development of economy , politics and culture during different countries and areas has been influenced by Norman. Thereby,we changed frightfulness impression to Norman.We could comprehensively reconsider and expound Norman historical situation . At the same time, we could perceive Norman spirit of defying difficulties and daring to adventure by analyzing Norman overseas expansion. It still plays an important role in modern people.The thesis consists of four parts:Part I: Norman and the Viking Age. Through interpreting the relevance definition,it is revealing the relation between Norman and the viking age as well as the maniacal interest of Norman in silver in this paper.Part II: Norman wars and trade. Taking kind and quantity of the viking-age silver coin for instance, this paper talks about Norman war and trade overseas . And it reveals clearly the passion towards war of Norman and their trade capacity.Part III: The reasons of Norman overseas expansion. The paper briefly analyses various factors of Norman overseas expansion in terms of its internal cause and external cause.Part IV: Norman overseas expansion effects. Considering the aspects of Scandinavia and the colony, the paper deeply explores the positive influences of the Norman expanding in Europe.
