The Original Gist of the Journey to the West is an important edition in the history of the famous Chinese classic work The Journey to the West,and it's also one of editions in Qing Dynasty which tried to prove Taoist spirit in the novel.As the 11^th presentative of Longmen Faction in Quanzhen taoism,Liu Yi ming had a great research on it to explain the principle of golden pellet,which seems to be more orthodox than others.Futhermore,he tried his best to exlain the Chinese traditional thoughts which were contained in the novel, such as Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism,and the theory of Yinyang,Five Elements, Changes,and it's the same with the commom customs in society.The dissertation trys to have a research on The Original Gist of the Journey to the West,and its research is on two dimensions,which one is about the writer,edition and cantext form,and the other is about the critics from Liu Yiming.The former is mainly linked with the status of the writer and the critical motive.Meanwhile,the latter is emphasized in the research,because the writer almost used the whole context of The Truth Annotation of the Journey to the West,which was written by Chen Shi bin.In other word, Liu Yiming put his emphasis on his critics to the novel.His critics has nearly 300,000 letters.And it reflects Liu Yiming's thought completely and thoroughly.Like other editions in Qing Dynasty,the final aim of his critics in to explain the principle of the golden pellet, but its work has an assistance of many Chinese traditional thoughts,which has been referred above,which not only can help us understand the novel,but also serve Liu Yiming's main work altogether.So we can find that his critics not only has a definite guidelines,but also has a strict logic system,which makes it become the superior edition.But because its final aim is the golden pellet,which was brought about by the movements of a transcendental element and some elements in human being's body,its critics gets into a unverified circumstances unavoidbly.And because of his intense aim,his critics is unavoidable to give a strained interpretation.But it has no barrier to our close research on the edition,and as long as we have the right materialism standpoint and a rational attitude,we can not only understand the novel better,but also can understand,the history of Chinese culture,thought and etc.
