The popular cultural of Shanghai is unprecedented prosperous in 1920s-1930s. Not only many classic entertainments get together in here,but also a lot of new entertainments from foreign which influence people's image about modern city.When one part of people enjoys classic entertainments,the others follow fashion and seek new life style in modern city.At the same time,female become more and more important role in popular cultural.From theatrical actress to modern drama actress,from female movie star to actress in song and dance ensembles,more and more female get in public space and join in popular cultural.The song and dance ensembles of Shanghai in the end of 1920s,which the paper concern,are the first group of modern song and dance ensembles in China.To clear about the rise and development process of them,not only make sure the process of female get in public space,but also,it very important that the female body show in public space is more and more popular.This show is the model of "new" female's health or the carrier of male's desire? For these questions,I observe and study female body shows on calendar (月份牌) and a pictorial publication—The Young Companion(良友),and make this narration to the background of the rise of modern song and dance ensembles.Then I narrate the performance of foreign song and dance ensembles in Republican Shanghai, and analyze these performance effect people's understanding about female body show and effect the people who establish modern song and dance ensembles in Shanghai.At last,I turn my eyes to the process of modern song and dance ensembles,show the process of female get in public space and analyze how the female body is made to "the carrier of desire" in public space in this process.
