Research On The Anti-smoking And Drug Control Of The Shanghai Republican Daily(1927-1932)

The Shanghai Republican Daily is an official newspaper of the Kuomintang and one of the four major newspapers of the Republic of China.The newspaper has always been concerned about people's livelihood issues because it published a large number of anti-smoking and anti-drug articles.On the basis of collecting and collating the reports on smoking and drug control in the Shanghai republican daily from 1927 to 1932,this paper analyzes the text through literature research method and interdisciplinary research method,aiming to illustrate that the Shanghai republican daily,as a major media in the period of the Republic of China,attaches great importance to the problem of smoking and drug control,especially its propaganda role.The article is divided into the following parts.The first part introduces the publishing history and the basic situation of the articles on anti-smoking and anti-drug issues of the Shanghai Republican Daily briefly.The second part combs the relevant reports of the Shanghai Republican Daily on the anti-smoking and anti-drug measures of Nanjing National Government,local government and the destruction of official anti-smoking and anti-drug measures by officials,soldiers and the public during the period of gradual prohibition and breaking prohibition attempts.The third part,taking the National Anti-drug Association of China as an example,analyses the reports of the Shanghai Republican Daily on non-governmental anti-drug groups.During this period,the National Anti-Drug Association of China urged the Nanjing National Government to resist drugs,called on the public to resist drugs,attached importance to the international anti-smoking and anti-drug propaganda,expanded its organization and coped with the international anti-smoking congress,which was reported in the Shanghai Republican Daily."Jiang'an Shipping Earthwork Case" is a major anti-smoking and anti-drug incident in the Republic of China.The fourth part of the article,starting from the Shanghai Republican of China,analyses the process of "Jiang'an Shipping Earthwork Case",the cognitive process of the case from all walks of life,the reaction of all walks of life and the interrogation process of the case after the blockade of relevant information by the Security Command.The fifth part explains the positive and negative reports of the Shanghai Republican Daily on the promotion and destruction of international anti-smoking and anti-drug activities as well as the reactions of the Central Anti-smoking Committee and the National Anti-drug Association of China to the negative anti-drug activities abroad.Finally,making an evaluation on the reports of the Shanghai Republican Daily on the issue of anti-smoking and drug control as a whole.The article thinks that as one of the important media at that time,the position of the Shanghai Republican Daily is more objective on the whole when it reports on the anti-drug and anti-smoking issues closely related to people's livelihood,but it also contains some elements to beautify the anti-drug and anti-smoking policies of the Kuomintang.Generally speaking,the newspaper not only plays a role in public opinion propaganda,but also plays a supervisory role in the government's anti-smoking and anti-drug work.
