As an increasingly-used type of discourse, manual, especially that of electronic products, has become a practical register of great value in this electric world. This thesis puts focus on stylistic analysis of manuals within the framework of Systemic Functional Linguistics led by M.A.K Halliday and its application in Chinese-English translation. Firstly, the analysis is carried out at three strata, from lexical, to grammatical, and finally to graphological level. And respectively, we discuss how the three meta-functions at the semantic level, namely, ideational, interpersonal and textual functions are put into place at each of the three above-mentioned levels, and finally verify the three situational factors (field, mode and tenor) of the specific register. The combination of Systemic Functional Grammar with Stylistics is fully showed in this thesis, which is also the main tendency of SFL's development in the practical field of application. And the table at the end of Chapter Four is presented with a summing-up picture of the analysis results. Nine texts of manuals regarding nine different electronic products are chosen from the official websites of world-famous companies, which are taken as the objects of analysis in this thesis.Secondly, based on the previous analysis, the author applies the analysis results of manuals to translation, Chinese-English translation in particular, to point out the current problems in this kind of translation and then give her own opinions about general principles guiding Chinese-English translation from such three aspects as words, sentences and passages, and format. The author believes that research related to translation of manuals is beneficial not only for theoretical research of translation in this field, but also for practical benefits on the part of both foreign users and the image of Chinese products in the international market.
