As we know, reading is the center of English teaching, especially for middle school students. Improving students' reading comprehension ability is one of the most important objectives of English teaching in middle school, as English reading ability occupies a significant part in their English competence. New Curriculum Standards for English Teaching at Senior High School's (2003) emphasizes the cultivation of learning strategies. Strategy-based teaching model is one of the most effective ways of English teaching, because it lays more emphasis on learning than teaching.This thesis is designed mainly to explore the impact of the strategy-based instruction on middle school students'EFL reading efficiency. The author intends to build connections between reading strategy research and instructional practice,and try to explore some appropriate methods for classroom strategy-based reading teaching through teaching experiments. The study targets at the application of reading strategies for middle school classroom English comprehension lessons , with specific aims of developing reading strategies for middle school students, training and raising the awareness of students'independent learning abilities, and putting the work into everyday teaching practice. Findings indicate that training students'reading strategies can improve their reading abilities efficiently.
