Objective:To Explore the physical,psychological,and social consequences of internet addiction in youth.Understanding the negative effect to them from the internet addiction.Methods:Used random-cluster sampling method,taken the vocational school students as the target population.From October to December in 2007, selected the students from first grade to third grade in Hunan Technical Industrial College and Hunan Industrial Vocational College as the subjects. Five questionnaires,such as the Internet Addiction Disorder Test,the Internet-related Behavior Questionnaire,the Internet Consequence Scale (ICONS),the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS),and the Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS) were administered to 500 subjects,and 478 valid questionnaires were obtained.All the data were analyzed by SPSS13.0.Results:(1) There are 6.7%internet addiction disorder students in all the testee.(2) Internet addiction disorder group and normal group showed no significant difference(p>0.05) in gender,urban and rural areas and whether they are the only child in their family or not.(3) Internet addiction disorder group in internet age,the average times online every time was higher than the normal group,there were significant differences between the two groups(p<0.05). Internet addiction disorder group spent longer time online and more times online than the normal group(p<0.001).Internet addiction disorder group and the normal group had no significant difference in the first time of their age of testee to use internet(p>0.05).(4) Compared the two groups in the internet content, there were no significant difference in the information and technology,sex and games,entertainment and relaxation,network interpersonal relationships(p>0.05).As to the internet attitude,the two groups had no significant difference in the network efficiency and the positive evaluation of the network(p>0.05), while the two groups had significant difference in the negative evaluation of the network(p<0.05).The internet addiction disorder group scored higher than the normal group.Compared the two groups in the network affection,there were no significant difference in online anxiety(p>0.05),on the contrary,there were extremely significant difference level in the network satisfaction(p<0.001),the internet addiction disorder group scored significantly higher than the normal group.(5) There were significant differences in depression between the internet addiction disorder group and the normal group (p<0.05),the internet addiction disorder group scored higher than the normal group.The two groups had extremely significant difference level in anxiety, physical consequences,behavioral consequences,economic consequences, psycho-social consequences(p<0.001).Conclusion:(1) There were significant differences between the internet addiction disorder group and the normal group in the internet age,online time, times online,daily / weekly time online.(2) There were significant differences between the internet addiction disorder group and the normal group in the negative evaluation of the network,network satisfaction.(3) There were significant differences between the internet addiction disorder group and the normal group in depression,anxiety,physical consequences,behavioral consequences,economic consequences and psycho- social consequences.
