The Great Gatsby is Fitzgerald's perfect and influential novel, which, through the mouth of Nick, Fitzgerald's carefully chosen spokesman, narrates Gatsby's story from success to disillusion.This thesis plans to explore the tragic fate of Gatsby and the causes of the disillusionment of his Dream from the perspective of consumerism.In Chapter 1, the author explains the "American dream" in American history, Gatsby's dream and the doomed failure of his dream. Chapter 2 intends to focus on the consumerism of the protagonists' disillusioned American dream. After he makes his fortune, Gatsby imitates the established rich to consume luxuriously. And still, Daisy, as the embodiment of Gatsby's American Dream, is a typical consuming woman who is extravagant in living. Gatsby's dream has a very close relationship with consumerism. Chapter 3 presents the contrast between consumerism and naivety in Gatsby's dream and this kind of contrast makes the disillusionment of his dream.The consumerism and naivety in his dream lead the disillusionment of his dream.
