From 1774 to 1783, Emperor Qianlong launched the book prohibition campaign. By taking this opportunity, he raised the second Literary Inquisition campaign. This campaign was the peak of the Literary Inquisition in ancient China. The Zi guan case was the stimulus to speed up the Literary Inquisition in 1777. Because of the special history context and great influence, all the researchers must refer to this case when they study Literary Inquisition, and their studies Mainly stand on the official files. However, it seems that there are many different points between the official files and the local memory of this case. The connotation of this difference are worth studying and thinking deeply. From using the local material and investigating the local people, this study tries to re-thinking about this case through history—anthropology perspective . By analysising the different view and memory of this case among officials,historians and local people, this study wants to find more reasonable explanation of the case and the significance behind the difference.
