Being capable of learning to speak from human beings, parrots have accompanied with us for a long history, such as the unearthed jade parrot of Shang dynasty and parrots in the Mogao Grottoes. Also, many records and legends about parrots were presented in foreign cultures. For example, Indian folklores often have parrots the main characters. Besides, they are regarded as divine birds and as the ever incarnation of Buddha. However, the talented birds neither have a place symbolizing auspicious in ancient China nor a vivid description in narrative literature.However, there were considerable amounts of works with the topic about parrots in ancient Chinese poems. It because: firstly, since Parrots Ode, written by Mi Heng, it had a special culture image in poets and literati. Secondly, it was often a substitution for authors owing to its linguistic talent to express sensibility of themselves in poems. Thirdly, parrots and women in ancient times have much in common. So women usually expressed their feelings via parrots.Poems on parrots, which imply authors'various emotions, reflex a characteristic that poets were passive in terms of right to speak. In all ages, the emotional expression was mainly presented as it-image becoming marginalized in the process of cultural invasion. However,"it"usually stands for the disappointed poet himself.Poems on parrots, due to being massive and complex in images with various artistic states can be divided into criticism to others and emotional expression of themselves. Because poets endured lower social status and being marginalized in the process of cultural invasion, image symbols have to be delivered by metaphor, fable or symbolization, which aims to give a better expression for personal emotions.
