The Buddhist Music Of Pure Land-Investigation And Research On Buddhist Music Of Lushan Donglin Temple

Lushan Donglin Temple is the cradleland of Pure Land Buddhism of Chinese Buddhism. Even since its built in Dong Jin Dynasty,from 123 people of the foundation time to the widely spread time in Tang and Song Dynasty, Donglin Temple has experienced a long history of around 16 centuries. It became one of the main streams of Buddhism for its simple way of cultivation by reading the Buddha's name. No matter for sacrifice ceremony or reading the Buddha's name,Donglin Temple always uses music through the whole process of Buddhism action. This very unique way has spread to nowadays.Based on the relevant history references of Pure Land Buddhism,this thesis mainly focuses on the evolution of Pure Land Buddhism music from Donglin Temple by the combination of viewpoints from both an ethical musician and a non-ethical musician through on-the-spot investigation. This thesis has observed the relation between the Pure Land Buddhism music,ceremony and religion through the record of Yulan sacrifice ceremony. At the end,in order to know better of the function of Donglin Buddhism to the Pure Land idea spread and the core function of inherit and the very special music, this thesis has done a research on the music of Buddha's name in Donglin Temple through analysis and comparison.
