Based on William Faulkner's dual roles being a novelist and drawing enthusiast and combined with the previous study and his biography, the thesis makes a deeper analysis of the Faulkner's narrative thinking and skills, revealing Faulkner's visual thinking and modern techniques on drawing, which makes his works present a unique artistic charm from others'.Most of the domestic researchers regard Faulkner as an excellent local author, or focus on his works'"skill test", but neglect Faulkner as an epic writer. By employing the characteristics of"epic"as the framework and analyzing the four aspects of the"picture narrative", the thesis summarizes his drawing thoughts and skills and further discusses Faulkner's aesthetic values behind his skills.Preface, this section, from two dimensions of"standard"and"out-standard", comments the narrative research status of the Faulkner's novel being made for over 20 years at home, and puts forward the thesis'argument and start point and general thoughts. On the whole, the first chapter analyzes the visual tendency of the modernism novels, and induces the unique visual characteristics of Faulkner's epic. The second chapter is the main part of the thesis. It uses the"epic"characteristics as the framework, and explores Faulkner's unconsciousness of the visual thinking and painting techniques from four aspects of serial pictures, portrait images, Beardsley's black–and-white picture, and painting-backdrop respectively. The thesis believes that the narrative strategy of"epic pictures"is directly determined by the combination of Faulkner's stream of consciousness and"epic"theme. The strategy is not only based on the painting skills, and more importantly, there is a"mode of painting thinking"through"Yoknapatawpha"from design to description. The integration of lingual thinking and visual thinking fills in the gap between stream of consciousness and historical reality, which makes Faulkner successfully complete the grand narration of the southern history of the America.
