A Cross-Cultural Study On Socializing Gender Behavioral Development Of 3-6-year-old Children From Hui, Han And Tibetan Ethnic Groups

Different society and culture confine socializing gender development of female and male children and define children's different gender behaviors. Meanwhile, gender development is decisive in infancy for children. Therefore, it is significant for the lifetime-long socializing development of children to investigate the socializing gender development and its factors in infancy.This study attempted to investigate the gender behavior of 476 3-6-year-old Children from Hui, Han and Tibetan ethnic groups via PSPA, EMBU and the concept interview with parents and teachers. Results showed that:(1)There were no significant differences of the effect of tolls children from Hui, Han and Tibetan ethnic groups liked to play.(2)There existed significant differences of the mean performances in children's daily activities and personal characteristics among these groups. In both daily activities and personal characteristics, the mean performances by Hui children were higher than those by Han and Tibetan children. Meanwhile, it was significantly different in daily activities between gender performances for Hui children, and the mean performance by females was higher than that by males.(3)The significant differences can not be seen in the performance of socializing male-orientated development and total socializing gender development but it can be seen in the performance of socializing female-orientated development, that is, the mean performance of female-orientated development by Hui children was superior to that by Han and Tibetan children.(4)Extremely significant difference can be seen in the performance of male-orientated, female-orientated and gender development by children from all the three groups.(5)There was no significant differences of the performances in all variables involved in the study for children at different ages.(6)Family background and parents'breeding style can indicate the socializing gender behavioral development of 3-6-year-old children. (7)Overall, different ethnic gender culture, religious customs and living habits, all can be the main cultural factors influencing the differences of infant socializing gender behavioral development from Hui, Han and Tibetan ethnic groups.
