This thesis attempts to analyze the application of narrative theories in Faulkner's A Rose for Emily under the guidance of narrative theories, which includes point of view, plot development, gothic fiction as well as character analysis. The adoption of different points of view not only makes up the first section of thesis but also acts as an important clue in the composition of my thesis. The author, by combing multi-points of view with plot development, characteristic analysis, creates a new perspective to exploring into the narrative artistry of this short story. This thesis can be generally divided into six chapters. It starts with introduction of narrative theories, including its definition, contents as well as its new development with point of view as the main focus. The second and third chapters, following the first chapter, continue to discuss different points of view employed in the story -- the first person, the third person omniscient and limited point of view. Different points of view play different roles in the story. In the last part of the second chapter, the author gives a further research on who"we"are and where"our"voice comes from. The fourth chapter deals with the plot development from its initial situation, complication, and climax to the conclusion under different narrators'narration, which contributes to unique points of this thesis. The following chapter proceeds to introspection study on gothic fiction in this story. This chapter, giving up the common way of analyzing a gothic fiction, resorts to a new method, that is, the gothic elements are reflected by the narration of different narrators systematically, which is something new in my thesis—to find a new perspective to analyze gothic fictions. In the previous five chapters, after the introduction of narrative theories, point of view narration as well as plot development, the thesis finally comes to the characteristic analysis in the story, also takes multi-points of view as a clue. The heroine in this story, showed different images from different perspectives of the narrative points of view and only under the multi-points of view narration a full image of her could be presentedIn a word, this thesis aims to give a study on narrative analysis on Faulkner's A Rose for Emily. On the basis of narrative theory, it involves point of view, plot development, gothic fiction as well as characteristic analysis, but it does not mean that all these chapters are separately carried on. Indeed, they are combined together systematically.
