With the globalizing in economy in the 21st century, China has been connected tightly with other countries in the world. After China entered WTO, it is the necessity to implement the education for international understanding for the high requirements of talents in economy, the needs of communication and cooperation with other countries, and the demands of promoting Chinese traditional culture. Besides, it's very feasible to implement the education for international understanding in elementary school in China, which is consistent with the aims of curriculum reform. How to implement the education for international understanding? We are still seeking for this. This research just tries to find out the effects of cooperative learning in implementation of education for international understanding.The action research is used in this thesis. The object is Grade 5, Class4 in No.22 foreign language school in Urumqi. The relative materials are collected from questionnaires, interviews, class observations, teaching and processed by SPSS. It's showed that the cooperative learning has distinctive advantages in implementation of education for international understanding. The contents of this thesis are as follows.The first chapter is about the background, aims, train of thought of this thesis. And it also discussed about the key concepts and relative literature reviews.The second chapter is about the connotation of education for international understanding in English subject and three dimensionalities aims of education for international understanding in elementary English curriculum.The third chapter is about the theory basis and action plans of implementing the education for international understanding by cooperative learning. And some samples of teaching episodes are presented in this chapter.The fourth chapter is about the evaluation of the whole action. After a term long attempt, it's found that the cooperative learning has significant values on the three dimensionalities aims of education for international understanding.The fifth chapter is about the thinking of actions. It presents the problems appeared in the process. Then, the tentative suggestions are put forward based on the analysis discussed above.
