The researches on Lodge provided us with understanding of the post-war Britain as well as Western novels, criticism and Western culture. This article takes Lodge's several religious novels as the object, and combines with contemporary Western religious landscape, trying to get more profound ideological content based on the results of the predecessors' research. The thesis is divided into 5 parts. Part 1 introduces Lodge's life and makes a carding and summing-up of the introductions of his works in China. Part 2 gives prominence to Lodge's uniqueness through comparing between him and Graham Greene (1904-1991). Part 3 explores how Lodge did from the suspect towards in-depth criticism step by step. Part 4 combines Lodge's thought with the modern context, pointing out that the Ultimate concern and the Life care are the same important, thereby further highlights the wisdom of Lodge. Part 5 reveals the insufficiency on the issue of religion in China's literature study and reiterates the deep thinking in Lodge's works. The value of this thesis consists in taking the contemporary Western social culture as the background, through exploring Lodge's inquiry about religion from idiographic context, trying to display contemporary Christians and ordinary people's perplexity on religion and spiritual beliefs, thereby highlighting Lodge's profound wisdom.
